HILL CRAFTS

Darjeeling often called "The Queen of Hill Stations" has preserved a wealth of arts and crafts having its own peculiarity. The famous painted tankas, colourful woven apron, knitted garments, copper and brush utensils of different sets and forms with beautiful repousse work, craved wooden mask, decorative bamboo work, Kalimpong bags etc., are the handicrafts products of the Hill areas of Darjeeling.

Two distinct cultures of Indian and Tibetian have mixed together and thus created a number of crafts and products widely accepted to the people of plain areas.

About 1,000 arts are engaged in various hill handicrafts in the three Hill Sub-Divisions of the District.
