India tops in US home textiles marketAccording to US Department of Commerce data, India has captured lead role in US Home Textile market, leaving behind arch rivals China and Brazil. In spite of textile quota restriction, Indian exporters have been able to capture significant market share in the USA,emerging as top supplier in terry towels, cotton sheets and pillow cover categories. Additionally, Indian products have gained significant share in table linen, curtain, cushion cover and cotton bed spread / quilt markets. In the pillow cover and cotton sheets product categories (Categories 360 and 361), India is far ahead of the rest with exports registering a growth of over 200 per cent over last three years. Indian suppliers have surged ahead of competition from Portugal and China to capture a combined market share of close to 20 per cent in the two product categories during 2003. In category 363 (terry towels), India has gained leadership position and captured market share of around 19 per cent. During last three years, India's growth rate in the segment has been around 55 per cent. In addition to these, Indian products are competing neck to neck with Chinese items in Category 369, which includes bags, table linen, napkins and curtains. For category 362 (cotton bedspreads and quilts), Indian export ranks third.
