Anti Dumping duty on Chinese Mushroom - Indian Mushroom exporters may gain
Anti-dumping measures initated by Mexico against imports of Chinese mushroom may turn out to
be a blessing for Indian exporters. Mexico is expected to levy a 50% anti-dumping duty on mushroom imports from China worth $20 million based on the preliminary findings to be
announced on July 4. According to sources, the move against China will throw open the
Mexican market for India. **Mexican importers are desperate and are coming next week to
India to visit our plant** Malvinder Singh, managing director, Agro Dutch Industries
(ADI) said.
Besides India, Mexicans may look at supplier markets such as Holland and Indonesia. However, Holland, being a developed country is not cost competetive and Indonesia does not have the capacity to meet this huge demand. Six suppliers in Indonesia together have a capacity to meet only 26,000 tonne.
On the other hand, ADI, the world’s second largest producer of integrated mushrooms has an installed capacity of 36,000 tonne per annum. As a result, the company is being approached
by all Mexican importers for supplies as it is the only producer with the capacity to
meet such a huge demand.
