The craft of conch shell is a very old craft of Bengal. The sign of Bengali marriage is conch shell bangles. There are different types of tools to cut & carve them. Decorative articles are also made from shell eg: spoons, forks, costume jewellery, table lamps etc. Blowing of conch shell is related to Hindu religion very closely. It is used as war horns during our epic days. It was blown as warning horn before floods & earthquakes. During auspicious occasions too it was used. |
