We have received a copy of your advertisement as placed by you
on the Internet Site belonging to The United Nations - UNTPDC/ETO.
It is generally known that letters of credit are in some way
controlled by The International Chamber of Commerce in Paris.
This is only partially correct. What is correct however is that
The Banking Committee of The Chamber issues every 10 years an
updated Guide to letters of Credit and their administration.
This Guide is called The Uniform Customs and Practises for
Documentary Credits, the current revision is called brochure number
500 and was dated 1993.
One of the important things that the current revision did was to
restrict the abilities of a business man when transfering a
letter of credit. All that he can do now is to transfer the
entire credit to someone called The Second Beneficary. He is now
only allowed to act as a sophisticated agent and no more.
However, it is not widely known that the brochure is not law
but a set of guidelines that the Banks agree in general to
abide by.
This leaves it open to individual banks to work outside the
guidelines if they so wish. Consequently we are able to offer the
following facilities with regard to letters of credit.
1. We can open miltiple sight letters of credit against one
incoming sight letter of credit
2. We can open multiple sight letters of credit against one
incoming deferred payment letter of credit.
3. We can open back to back letters of credit.
4. We can open letters of credit against an acceptable
assignment of proceeds under a letter of credit.
Please note that the only security required is the incoming
letter of credit.
